Fractal

Fractal was an installation in Vivid Sydney,
a 23 day Winter Light Festival,
visited by over 2.3 million people.
Fractal aimed to re-frame and re-contextualize the urban environment by presenting the audience a kaleidoscopic view of the city, fragmenting and reflecting light in unexpected ways. From every angle the work provides a new view of the city, and oneself.
The construction process employed several advanced fabrication methodologies and technologies as well as highly detailed parametric 3D modeling. The frame was assembled using SLS 3D printed nodes, connected by steel arms, and clad in CNC cut acrylic.
The acrylic, coated in a two-way mirror film, reflected it’s context when the lights were off, however when the lights were activated the reflective internal faces would create an infinity mirror.
